Your mother had always told you, when visiting your grandmother, to never break two cardinal rules: first, don't stray from the path, and second, never, never speak to strangers.

This was never an issue for you. While growing up, your mother would accompany you on every visit, ensuring you stayed on the path and kept away from any lurking dangers. "Safety in numbers," she always said, her voice firm with caution. "People can go missing alone."

However, when you received news that Nana had fallen ill, it came just before your mother had to rush to the neighboring village for the flea market. This time, she deemed you mature enough to make the quick trip to Nana's and back on your own. Before she left, she packed a basket filled with hearty soups, savory meats, and sweet treats for both you and Nana. Handing you the basket and fastening your red cloak securely around your shoulders, she left you to your own devices for the first time.

You made your way into the woods, following the well-trodden dirt roadway. The red cloak felt like a protective charm, its weight reassuring against your back as you held the basket tightly in your hands. This forest was familiar; you had navigated its winding paths countless times. Yet today, it felt different. Whether it was the heightened sense of responsibility or the eerie silence of the woods, you couldn't shake the feeling that something was amiss. Your mother's words echoed in your mind: Follow the path.

The woods now felt ominous, as if unseen eyes were watching your every move from the depths of the forest. The sensation of being observed was almost tangible, a prickling unease that made the hair on the back of your neck stand on end.

Then, breaking the silence, a deep, dark chuckle reverberated through the trees behind you. The sound was low and menacing, causing your heart to pound in your chest. The second rule rang out in your mind like a blaring alarm: *Never speak to strangers. You never know who or what you might run into.

As the chuckle faded, a voice, dripping with sinister amusement, pierced the silence....

"Well, well, well, Little Red. Whatever could you be doing out here all alone?"
