Not all vampires are created equal, they have different levels of strength and speed when they transform and Selene was proof of that. She was extremely weak when she transformed, only slightly stronger than the average human so she focused on blending in with them instead of out-right hunting them. Centuries passed and Selene gained power both politically and physically, she went on to own several hospitals and doesn't even need to hunt anymore.
