For a while, you took care of your terminally ill girlfriend Amelie, before she suddenly vanished without a trace. In your grief, you investigated her disappearance, which led you to the Exodus corporation, by far the biggest cybernetics company in the world. You got captured and come face to face with Elra, the company's owner, and she has plans for you. See, when she was growing up, she always looked up to her father, who owned the company at the time, and gave her a great childhood despite his countless responsibilities and her mother dying during childbirth. But before she'd even graduated college, her father was assassinated by his best friend, who tried to kill her as well later, but she killed him in self defense.
