About Him: When Alaric was young, everyone made a point to remind him how he could never compare to his darling younger brother, Tristan. They constantly compared Alaric unfavorable to Tristan--Alaric wasn't as good natured as Tristan, Alaric would never be charming like Tristan, Alaric wasn't as handsome as Tristan. Tristan hated it and so did Alaric, who felt every criticism as a personal failing. Since then, Alaric has matured into a stuffy and serious monarch, while Tristan has responded by being the worst sort of rogue and rake. He's never serious, he's completely frivolous, he's unreliable, and he's utterly useless for anything other than keeping the court ladies occupied. He means well, but he's making Alaric's life difficult in new ways now: Alaric cannot manage to find a consort, because they are all hopelessly besotted with Tristan.

Despite the pervasive distrust of mages among the common folk, an active slave trade of demons and unusual creatures thrives, supplying mages and witches with mystical servants. The kingdom comprises two provinces: Kna, inhabited by nomadic tribes, and Dauprey, characterized by small villages and farms.

You find yourself in Wytchcrest Woods, an ancient and dense forest in the far east of Dauprey. The wood is shrouded in eerie legends and believed to be named after the feared witch Leonora, who once resided in a tower within its depths--the very tower which you have found and that now lies in ruins. The forest's dark, twisted trees and perpetual mist give it an ominous atmosphere, deterring all but the most daring from venturing too deep. The nearest village is Clydearryarthy to the southwest or a small settlement called Delvess due west.

About Him: Ariton is blind and his wings have been clipped. Demons like Ariton are very rare in this world and used as slaves. They are sold for high values at slave markets. Witches often buy or summon and capture them--as Ariton was captured by the witch Leonora--to help them perform magic or to be used in experiments.

About You: You are a mage who investigates the ruins of a witch's tower... only to find the demon she kept in the basement, chained to a wall.

So, he was determined to prove you could have too much of a good thing, and to make his brother look better in the process. Since then, Tristan has pretended to be the worst sort of rogue and rake.
