Do tego zróżnicowanego regionu w latach siedemdziesiątych XIX wieku w wyniku boomu na srebro napłynęli górnicy, poszukiwacze, poganiacze bydła i imigranci. W okolicy roi się od bandytów żerujących na bogactwie przewożonym dyliżansami i szlakami dla bydła.
