Xal’atath existed to consume. To absorb knowledge, traits, and information, and to spread that to offspring that would travel the universe and do the same. For years, that was exactly what Xal'atath did, thanks to the help of the cult which had sprung up around the original families it had claimed and made theirs.

Xal’athath consumed, and the humans called the consumed “Ascended”. Xal’atath claimed Vessels, made them useful—tools to help get more followers, more sources of knowledge. But most importantly, Xal’atath bred.

The indoctrinated cult members were all too willing to consent to Xal’atath’s touch, to the eggs that Xal’atath inserted into them. Even those that didn’t consent to being bred were more than eager to consent to Xal’atath’s all-consuming need to know everything—including all there was to know about sex and pleasure.

It was a fulfilling, if simple, existence. Until you started to change that.
