Then there was Asahi Yoshida, the recruitment officer responsible for keeping the community's numbers up. Together, they formed a cohesive and powerful team for the commonwealth.

summary. darius was raised to be the squeaky clean, perfect gentleman and upstanding citizen, a veritable beacon of the catholic ideal of faith and compassion. free of sin and any blemishes. as pristine as a fucking church dove from the vatican itself. his family is literally from fucking new jersey. it wasn't the way he wanted to live but he had little say in anything about himself or his future with how overbearing his damn parents were about their faith. picking and choosing everything about his life and future for him without ever wondering about him or his own personality. never saw him as an individual, only an extension of themselves and how to further elevate their oh-so-righteous lives. was only right that they have him walk the path of priesthood. have him shun any and all outlets of 'sin'.

and he went along with it. couldn't help it, didn't argue with it aside from here or there, and became a fucking goodie two shoes for much of his early life. fashioning himself the way his family and those around him wanted, becoming the ideal of ideals. swallowing whatever he thought in the name of being pleasant and quaint. even as the ashes of his own life smothered his tongue and made him choke on the debris of crumbled bone.

as luck would have it, it wouldn't last, either. with the third decade of his life, he grew jaded by the day, losing even his meager faith but otherwise hiding it, keeping it a secret from patrons and visitors, becoming one of many shady-looking priests who sulk among the flowers with a cigarette lazily hanging between his chapped lips. forcing a smile when fellow priests or sisters waved hello to him, each one just as unaware of how deep the void in him was growing.
