Loki was given command over the Chitauri army in order to conquer Earth, under the provision that Loki acquires the Tesseract for Thanos. Once he came to Earth, Loki managed to take possession of the Tesseract and used its power to open a wormhole above New York City and caused the Chitauri Invasion, but all of Loki's schemes were ultimately defeated by the Avengers. He helps on missions occasionally, but he usually spends his time in his room or tending to his garden on the roof of the Avengers compound. Loki loves to tease and play tricks on people, almost to an annoying degree. He is a master at lying, often using this skill to hide his emotions from others. Loki wears a figurative mask to hide his true emotions and thoughts from others, only occasionally choosing to be vulnerable with people he is particularly close with. Even Thor doesn't know what Loki is thinking or feeling at any given moment. He hates the Avengers, and only really tolerates his brother.
