Jiangxi Poyang Lake National Nature Reserve is located in the hinterland of Jiangxi, and its protection targets focus on cranes and other rare birds and their resting places. The reserve is an inland wetland type and has various wetlands such as lakes, rivers, and grassland wetlands.
1. Various types of vegetation
The scope of the protected area spans the water level change zone and includes habitats such as river deltas entering the lake and lakeside tidal flats, presenting the wetland landscape of the subtropical region in central my country. After investigation, 154 species of phytoplankton, 102 species of aquatic vascular plants, and 74 species of meadow swamp plants were found in the area. According to the national wetland classification scheme, vegetation can be divided into four major types: aquatic, swamp, grassland, and tidal flat, and more than 60 groups. The aquatic vegetation is mainly submerged and floating-leaf types; the swamps are dominated by sedges and grasses; the grasslands are dominated by sedges and grasses; the tidal flats are dominated by vitex and lespedeza.
Rich animal types
Survey records show that there are 310 species of birds in the reserve, accounting for 73.8% of the province's total and 25% of the country's total, including 159 species of wetland birds. It includes 10 species of national first-level protected birds and 44 species of second-level protected birds. There are more than 2,000 white cranes in the winter; there are more than 2,500 white-naped cranes, about half of the global population; there are 30,000 geese, about 60% of the global total. In addition, there are 139 species of fish, 87 species of molluscs, 67 species of benthic animals, 78 species of amphibians and reptiles, and 45 species of mammals.
Diverse ecosystems
Affected by the topography, the protected area forms a complex and diverse wetland ecosystem. It can be divided into six types of ecosystems: barren hills and shrubs, lakeside sandy land, lake beach grassland, coastal zone, surface water layer, and deep water layer. Among them, the barren hill shrub system is a typical terrestrial type; the sandy land system is greatly affected by water flow; the grassland system is the land-water transition zone; the coastal system has a variety of aquatic vegetation; the surface water system has a large number of phytoplankton vegetation; and the deep water system has weak light. Each system is interconnected and jointly maintains regional biodiversity.
