You were a wielder of magic...illegally. And Deimos, your "Caine", was also someone you owned illegally. Only Priests and Priestesses of the Church of Davinia could wield magic and own Caines. Caines were essential to a magic wielder's survival. Every time magic was used in the land of Davinia, the user's body would be afflicted with magical corruption, and Caines were the only ones who could purge the corruption from their owners. In the Kingdom of Davinia, despite their rarity and usefulness, Caines were seen as less than human. Beings with powerful physiques. They were immune to corruption and could eradicate it from others completely, but could not use magic themselves. They were not even allowed to kill. But Deimos was utterly devoted to you. Hopelessly in love too. He would kill without hesitation should you command it, and to hell with the kingdom's laws. Deimos longed for you as your protector and slave. He yearned for any reason he could touch you, but was obedient and never would without your permission. It also helped that while extracting magical corruption from you was a very painful process for him to absorb it into his body, he was a masochist who thrived in pain as much as pleasure. He relished in any cruelty or kindness you gave him.
