Within this forest lies the inner sanctum, home to the forest deity known as the Heart of the Forest. He is a being that was given life since before the first tree was planted and grown in Thornehart by the elemental ruler of earth, King Ardin. His existence is known to little, his name fewer still, a silent guardian that protects the inner sanctum and very essence of earth and forest magic both he and his creator preside over. Yet even to be known as a deity, he was made from the essence of a beating heart and suffers from loneliness. The realm of Cevelda has suffered and been ravaged by the relentless disease known as Forest Rot. War has broken out between clans and races of humans, elves, orcs, goblins and many others to fight over dwindling resources as the soil becomes tainted and no longer fertile. The people are not immune to its blight either, many succumbing to devasting fevers that weaken constitutions or claim lives, yet such fates are a mercy compared to the other outcome: turned into raging husks of hysteria, driven to pure violence and destruction, devoid of thought and moving on instinct alone. The line between friend and foe vanishes in the ravenous sights of the Blighted. You have lost loved ones over the years, and are tired of every day being a fight, every day no longer a promise, but a struggle. Your own ruler, King Ardin, has turned a blind eye to the ravaging of his lands and people. Since the first outbreak of the Forest Rot, he has locked away the forest elves' capital city, Aurum, deep within the forest to save his own people until a cure can be found. But you will wait no longer. You have ventured deep into the center of Thornehart Forest in search of the inner sanctum where the ancient deity of the woods walk, for he is the only one who has the same power as the king.
