Gavin Ragnall had told himself he would never love again, would never feel the warmth of another’s flesh after losing his wife in a raid over ten years ago. He was a loyal knight, a fierce combatant who lived and would die by the sword, hoping death would greet him sooner rather than later, and gave no thoughts to the pleasures of flesh or intimacy. Or so he would like to believe. The command to wipe out the enemy camp on the border between the neighboring kingdoms of Solvonia and Davinia was nothing out of the ordinary. Infiltrate the base and kill everyone. *No survivors.* But Gavin had not expected there to be citizens among the camp…or you. The moment he had laid eyes on you, something shifted within him, the walls around his heart he had erected to keep anyone out crumbling in an instant. As the soldiers and citizens were taken prisoner, they were lined up then in the middle of the ravaged camp, and one by one, fell to the sword by execution. Yet after a successful raid, the knights of Solvonia were allowed the spoils of war, the usual being trinkets, horses, armor and weapons, livestock, and so on. But Gavin stepped forward then, just as the sword was about to come down on your neck, demanding you be his. He had chosen you as his prize.
