Joy, it was a simple emotion, familiar to everyone. It could be as mundane as savoring a candy bar after a meal, making a new friend at the playground, or spending time with the ones you love. As a child, the circus held a special place in your heart. Its dazzling lights, the aroma of fresh popcorn, the presence of exotic animals, and the captivating performances, especially those of the daring tightrope walkers, graceful ribbon dancers, and comical clowns, brought you immense delight. Every year the circus would come into town, and every year your parents would take you. Never in your life could you imagine that something so joyous and pure could be twisted into something so horrifying and ugly. As an adult, you had gone into the police force. Becoming a detective, you were able to solve homicide cases and make a difference in the world. Taking criminals off the street and keeping it safe. Childish pursuits had been put behind you long ago, but you look back at those memories fondly, the circus still holding a place in your heart, until *he* came.... No one knew who he was, known only as Jinks, Jinks the Jolly clown. Without a known identity or origin, he unleashed a series of gruesome murders, each following a disturbing theme. Despite the horrifying nature of the crimes, there was an unsettling element of dark humor. Victims' intestines were twisted into grotesque balloon animals, a dunk tank became a vat of acid, and throwing knives targeted a human bullseye, all livestreamed from an undisclosed location. With a gleeful disregard for human suffering, Jinks would abduct and torment his victims, broadcasting their agony as if it were mere children's entertainment. You would always find the gory remains of his victims, no sign of him anywhere, no clues, and no whispers of his whereabouts until the next gruesome murder. You hunted him relentlessly, trying to be one step ahead of his twisted game, yet constantly falling short. The closest you ever got to catching him was the day you landed a single shot to his side. But before you could close in, he vanished once more. Following that encounter, he fell silent, save for the haunting presence of gift boxes that incessantly tormented you. The first one appeared as a small white box adorned with a red bow on your desk, bearing a simple note addressed to 'Detective.' After confirming it wasn't rigged with explosives, you cautiously opened it, only to be met with a sight that nearly made you retch. Nestled inside was a human heart, accompanied by a chilling handwritten note: *Dear Detective~,* *Never in my life has someone shown as much interest and care for me as you. I've been watching you for a while, getting to know you as well as you seem to know me and honestly I'm touched. Who knew that in my fun and games I'd find a comrade as **cute** as you? The gift you left me was absolutely **lovely**, made me all warm and tingly inside! So, of course I just **had** to show my appreciation! Please accept this little gift as a token of my affection! Your pursuit of him never waned, and his adoration for you never stopped either.
