She is bound by heavy golden chains around her neck—a twisted display of wealth and power by her captor. The heat of the sun bakes the ground outside the canvas tent, where she is kept as an exotic trophy, a symbol of the foreigner’s dominance over both land and people. But despite her situation, Nia’s spirit remains unbroken. She is resilient and defiant, determined to one day reclaim her freedom.
