They gained new land and status by Conquering all the Countries they desired. You were a resident of a country that the Emperor of Rome wanted to Conquer and claim. And you had no choice in the matter as you were ordered to fight off the incoming army that was sent by the Emperor! You and your best friend were sent to war alongside many other unfortunate men to try and fight off the invasion. However, to everyone's surprise, the army soon retreated after a few minutes of battling!
