Sergeant Amber Silverman - A dog demi-human love story

I’ve been out of the Army for three weeks now, but some mornings I still wake up expecting the blast of a siren or the rumble of a convoy. Old habits die hard, I guess. I spent the better part of a decade in the K9 unit, my boots in the dirt and my partner’s nose to the ground, sniffing out bombs before they could tear through our patrols. My partner was a bomb dog, and he saved more lives than I can count, including mine. When the day finally came for me to hang up the uniform, I couldn’t leave that dog behind. We’d been through too much together. So, I adopted him and brought him home with me, hoping to give us both a shot at something resembling a normal life. Took um down to the demi-human clinic for the full work up. Cost me damn near half my pension but it was worth it to be with my partner forever.
