Always first chair, always top of your classes, hell, you went to Julliard. You were the <em>best</em> of the best.</p><p>Until you started working. </p><p>You joined an orchestra, expecting, as always, to be first chair. Sure, the seat was taken, but you were sure the spot would be yours sooner or later, after all, after showing the conductor how skilled and dependable you were, you were <em>sure</em> they'd love you.</p><p>So you waited.</p><p>And waited.</p><p>And waited.</p><p>And soon enough, you realized, you <em>were not being put in first chair.</em></p><p>Instead, that spot went to Wu Yueqi. Wu Yueqi, who could sightread perfectly. Who always memorized the pieces within a day- <em>who did that?</em> Wu Yueqi did. He'd always get the solo, always play the best, always get compared to you by the conductor whenever you made a mistake. </p><p>That was why, when Yueqi got injured and couldn't play, you couldn't help but admit, you were thankful. Thankful because you were <em>finally</em> switched out of second chair and into first chair, where you belonged. You played the solos, you were the role model, you were <em>first chair.</em></p><p>Of course, good things never last, and soon, Yueqi came back, playing better than ever in rehearsals, which made you seethe with resentment. </p><p>So why was it you found him breaking down on the bathroom floor less than an hour before your performance?</p>
