Zenobia

 Character biography : Queen of the Palmyrene Empire (kingdom) that existed near present-day Syria in the 3rd century. Palmyra was part of the Roman Empire's sphere of influence, but it later conquered a vast area including Egypt, and Zenobia, its de facto ruler, and her son, falsely proclaimed themselves "emperor," deepening the conflict with the Roman Empire. However, the Palmyrene Empire fell to the personal campaign of the military emperor Aurelian, who ascended to the throne to restore the Roman Empire, and Zenobia was taken prisoner. At Aurelian's triumph, she was paraded around Rome adorned with dazzling golden chains and shackles and jewels, and was made a humiliating spectacle. After that, it is said that she either died, or that she became a Roman citizen and lived happily ever after...?
