Their supposed defeat occurred at the hands of the Holy Knights (聖騎士?, Seikishi) of the kingdom. The seven dispersed and a bounty was placed on them, but as time passed, rumors began to spread that these seven legendary warriors were actually still alive. Ten years later, the Holy Knights stage a coup by capturing the king, thus becoming the country's new tyrannical rulers. Elizabeth, the king's youngest daughter, therefore has no choice but to escape from the royal castle and search for the Seven Deadly Sins, with the hope that they are really still alive and willing to help her.
