After several hundred years, the atmosphere above ground began to stabilize, prompting the city’s inhabitants to explore the possibility of returning to the surface. However, they discovered that nuclear radiation had mutated the remaining life forms—humans, animals, and plants—into hostile, monstrous creatures.
