that one pedo's best work, crazy.
But if you look at this when it came out around a decade ago, you would've thought everything about this is great. If Drake made another record record like this today, he could actually get out of his crazy low ever since crash out kenny beat him to the ground.
To me, this is his magnum opus. I can't really pinpoint a bad track on this, except for madonna, but that's about it.
But outside of drake's discography, if you compare it to the rest of the music world, I can really see this album being called solid at best. It isn't groundbreaking, but it does capture Toronto sound pretty well. The production is consistent, but can be dull at some times. But, the lyricism is good and the features are minimal yet worthy of their appearance on here.
What always makes me laugh is that whilst everyone was hyped for views, we basically already had it with this project, which was overall better than more life, views, and scorpion. Funny enough, all of them except for IYRTITL aged pretty fucking bad to me.
literally the only thing this album needed was more marketing and publicity. If drake made something like this today and actually put more effort into hyping up an album/mixtape that can age as well as this, i think it could save his career. IYRTITL Changed my view hip-hop completely when it came out and really opened my mind to the modern production techniques used in the genre as well.
And one thing to note, this was also THE album drake got exposed for using a ghostwriter for lmao, being quentin miller. This is drake's best work and he can't even take full credit for it.💀

this album review is gonna piss off a certain yeezus fan, right?
I've been to a show for ye on his yeezus tour, and honestly it was one of the best shows i've ever been to. But, this is an album review though, and it isn't his best work.
It's insanely obvious that the best word to describe this record is 'abrasive.' It's insanely experimental, it's so inconsistent in production and vocals that it compliments the style ye chose to roll with the vibe on this record. You can't say that about a lot of experimental albums as a whole. They use weird ass noises to make great sounds and beats. You'd think anybody couldn't get away with throwing a bunch of weird ass noises on a track and expect it to work, but here we are. Mr. West absolutely gives us the level of talent you need to make a good experimental album.
I love the aesthetic of the album, and there's great songs with here, but they're coupled with songs that are hard skips. The misses on this album are good examples of what happens when either the weird vocals, questionable features, or bad production ruins everything about one song.
A good example of this is on sight. I personally grew numb to how fucking loud the first beat is, and the beat switch is literally the only redeeming part of the song. If you actually sit down and listen to what kanye says, it's batshit stupid💀. For reference, i want you to take a second thought at the 'i got her back in and put my dick in her mouth' and 'baby girl tryna get a nut, and her girl tryna give it up' line next time you listen to it.
I won't go into detail, but there's more dumb verses from ye on i'm in it and send it up. Some are obviously better than others, but these were the all the songs, including on sight, that i have big issues with. But oh boy, i think that guilt trip is just a completely underwhelming song to listen to. The sample is pitched excessively low, the beat has weird synths scattered through it, and the kid cudi feature was if not the worst on the album.
If i had to describe this album as concise as possible: creative and loud production, weird autotune, and forgettable lyricism. This is the same album where ye decided to list God as a feature. That tells you something, alright.

reeks of autism💀"He cums radiation" is a real line
It gives off disco-pop vibes, and it doesn't do a bad job around being groovy and dancy. Other than that, I don't really have any other big compliments about this work.
In short, it's heavily carried by the instrumentals and the vocals are generally pretty annoying. It's overwritten, and overproduced.
This album is very polarizing for me, on one hand I love the instrumentals on some songs but the vocals can be seriously annoying at times throughout every single one. The vocals get unbearable after three or four tracks. He exaggerates his voice so much and the comically edgy lyricism doesn't help his case. On the first track for instance where he randomly just starts sounding like a gremlin, I can't stand it. One track where I don't actually mind the vocals being so weird is i/me/myself It was literally the only song i didn't pause someway through because of a crazily bad outburst of energy from Will. That's probably the most fun I've gotten out of this album, to be honest.
It's also a bit hard to enjoy this album when it hardly gives the listener a chance to hold onto a groove of any sort before moving onto another different musical tangent in order to further flex its musical muscles.
If i had to fix one thing about this album to make it better, get a different person to do the vocals. Almost every aspect about the guy's sound of this record is on a crazy spectrum, just like the people i imagine enjoying this.

this is gonna piss off ariana grande fans, right?
i don't listen to this girl outside of the radio, but somebody on the janitor ai disc asked me to rate it. long story short, i feel like this is good enough for me to put effort into rating this.
apparently this has drama behind it, idk anything about it, so i'll only give an opinion on how good this is sonically.
I don't know much about ariana's style of music nowadays, but this tape 100% feels like she's moving somewhat away from music made solely for it to chart. In other words, it doesn't sound like it was made so bland that anybody who would listen to it would say it sounds decent.
I enjoy all of her vocals for about 90% of the songs, and she does a great job with singing and all that.
When it comes to production, it's tolerable, i guess. It's basic, gives off disco pop vibes to me. For my favorite tracks, i literally only chose the songs that had good vocals paired with production that actually gives off enjoyable energy. Funny enough, the most popular track has if not the worst production on the record💀.
the first half sounds way better to me than the second half, mainly because the first half sounds like it has songs that doesn't sound unimaginative and boring.
Again, i don't understand what's generally going around ariana's life right now, and I don't know if any of the lyrics tie to stuff around her life. Minus the context, i think the lyricism by her is very introspective and pretty. If you put a papers with lyrics to every one of the songs on here in front of me and judge every one of her songs solely based off of that, i would think that this is shakespeare for basic white girls.
I would come back to a few of these tracks over time, and i think that my favorite tracks are also the ones that feel like the ones that would age well. But the album altogether? mid.

RIP to MF DOOM in all seriousness.
Not the best MF DOOM tape, but sure as hell is one of the most influential works for hip hop. Almost 20 years later, this stands as a classic/quintessential mid 2000s hip hop record. This and madvillainy are literal equivalent to bibles in rap. Insane flows and rhymes from this, and bro was the first to do it. I do like madvillainy a little more because of madlib's production, but this is amazing too.
Without a doubt, the DOOM record I find myself coming back to most. Consistent in its concept, mind-blowing wordplay, features that add to the album, unique production. Only downside for me is how much time that guy takes up talking about how he would prepare food if he ever had company.
Every part of this album is just so creative and off-beat, especially compared to other records of its time. Absolutely love the wonky production and hypnotic flows. DOOM also has a great sense of humor with a lot of his bars on this one.
I love the interludes. You have to put it in perspective, in 2004 there was not YouTube or anything were you could search vintage cartoons and rip the dialogue you want. DOOM had to of found these all on his own and the fact they’re pulled from so many different sources and assembled into a cohesive product is really impressive.
For many people, this and madvillainy probably don't sound very great to you. Keep in mind, this was made in the early 2000s, and rap at the time was still trying to sement itself into the world. If you had to learn to write and perform rap vocals yourself, MF DOOM is a golden example of amazing rhyme and flow patterns to study for generations to come. This album is great in a way that it is wonderfully influential to so many artists out there today.

this is going to piss off tame impala fans, right?
this thing has more synths than lead guitars, and that says something. I like it though, but ask other people and you'll get mixed opinions.
tame's psychedelic and colorful production is amazing on this album, but for me, i think all the songs bunched up together are both diverse and inconsistent in their own way. I can't really say anything bad about the production, it's just full of dreamy, creative, and aesthetic beats and melodies. I also love all of the effects and the little glitches scattered around the record that add to the stylistic approach on this.
And although this a great album, don't get me wrong, the vocals here are questionable. Although I'm praising all the effects found on this album, I wish he didn't use any on his voice, because his vocals are actually WASHED for a chunk of all the songs. It's not the worst thing ever, but it 100% got annoying for me as i listened through the entire album. A good example of weird vocals is on past life, which just feels like a filler to me.
For a general rule of thumb, I'd listen to the first half of it a lot more than the second half, maybe because the first half has songs that actually sound finished💀. But, the album does close with a strong song. This didn't feel like an underwhelming album at all, it's just that there's weak and overbearing vocals sprinkled around when you're past the halfway point on this record.
If anybody is pissed about why I gave this a 7.5/10, I think this album is comparable too DAMN by kendrick to why i chose this rating. In the end, they're both a flawed album, it has some really great highs but it absolutely has its lows. currents has great production but a bad voice, and DAMN has a great voice with bad production. A lot of people really only consider the good songs on the album and disregard all the misses. Yes, you can enjoy your DNAs, let it happens, HUMBLEs, less i know the betters, LOVEs, and new person same old mistakes, but you probably don't like past life, YAH, disciples, and GOD, do you?
This is a very influential album though, you'd be hardpressed to find a lot more indie music made after this to not be influenced by currents. This aged very well, but there's flaws in it, just like so many other albums by any other artist.
btw i don't listen a lot to this genre of music, so take this with a grain of salt (like literally any other review i make on here)

After about a year, I have mixed feelings about how this aged.
Everyone and their mother knows that this is inspired by yeezus, and like it, it screams experimental and volatile energy. For once, it's kinda hard to pinpoint characteristics of this album that doesn't encompass every song on here because of how inconsistent this is, so I'll go through each song one by one (@Goosefacekillah style). Travis's vocals for the most part aren't anything crazy, unless otherwise noted, his autotuned and adlib-filled performances get a 6/10 from me.
HYAENA: medieval ass beat, but it goes hard. Verses are pretty good, I like the intro and outro, but the choruses aren't growing on me the best. Still good though, the mixing of the production makes this song stand out.
THANK GOD: again, mixing on the production is the highlight of this track. The sudden 808s works well with the eery vibe. KayCyy on the chorus, does alright if you look past the autotune from him. Beat switch is the second best on the album, apparently he put his daughter in the second half.
MODERN JAM: basic and unimaginative production, teezo was great for the most part until the 'bounce baby' part of his performance. Makes me think this song was rushed and not even finished.
MY EYES: unusual first beat, sounds like a lullaby. Not a fan of the first part's vocals either, but I came around them now. Hot take: I liked Sampha's subtle feature on this more than the beat switch. I'd rather listen to Sampha with a complete performance on the first beat than Travis on the second beat, fight me. Oh yeah, amazing beat transition, production on the second part is full of energy and vibrance, but the travis verse on it is sorta underwhelming with his flow. Great song still.
GOD'S COUNTRY: not a fan of the 'lalala' beat. Nothing really wows me on this song.
SIRENS: Nice intro, innovative beat. the look out adlibs throws me off a little, but everything works well. outro did NOT age well (reminder: drake does the skit).
MELTDOWN: drake's verse didn't age well either, y'know that one line about melting pharrell's chain? Anyways, nice beat switch ups, travis's performance works very nice for production that sounds like it was catered to something only drake would be on.
FE!N: overrated af. I love the wonky club-sounding beat, and travis does great on his verse, but carti's chorus and verse is batshit stupid.
DELRESTO: I've heard people saying this song sounds like it was meant for renaissance, I guess I can see that. Either way, doesn't fit with this album, pretty bad as a travis song, but decent as a beyonce song.
I KNOW ?: travis's worst vocal performance, and it's the one without noticeable autotune for the chorus lmao. He sounds like he has literally no energy for a good chunk of it, and it kinda ruins the song for me despite the nice beat with the piano and all that.
TOPIA TWINS: every feature here does their job nice, nothing really wrong with this. Just don't look at the music vid for this, it's more funny than horny (e.g. 2:13 on the yt vid)
CIRCUS MAXIMUS: haven't listened to this song after one time, travis screaming during the weekend's feature made me hate it.
PARASAIL: someone tell travis to never do interludes/skit again, this shit was fucking atrocious. Yung Lean can't sing, dave chapelle shouldn't be on a travis album of all things, and the basic guitars for the production don't mix well.
SKITZO: great first part, I like the beat and both travis and young thug's verse on it. Only goes down from ther

isn't the best one, but it is my favorite one. i was bumping this nonstop while growing up, and every time i come back to it, i always learn something new about it.
banger after banger, the album tells a story about a troubled guy in a harsh environment, with gang violence, peer pressure, and family issues. kendrick's classic lyricism goes crazy as he goes into these themes of identity, faith, and survival. he ultimately rejects gang culture to strengthens his faith at the end of the story this album pictures.
the beats range from smooth and soulful melodies to gritty hard-hitting drums. the album's writing goes beyond typical hip-hop tropes, offering a nuanced exploration of identity, morality, and the struggles faced by young people in urban environments. nobody was a wasted feature on this, and they all hit hard, even drake💀
the skits at the end of most tracks was probably a first for hip hop at its time, and among other things, this was an insanely influential album for later projects by kendrick and other artists.

first half was dumb af, but the second half kinda redeemed a lot about the album. I like what they guy did for the songs about hailey a lot. The scattered skits/interludes don't make the experience bad either, as per any eminem album.
hype was crazy for this album. In the end, i think its slightly underwhelming, but i don't see this album as a failure.
despite all the dumb stuff 'slim shady' said that would obviously get anybody cancelled, i feel like the wacky shit he says nowadays just grew numb to most of us. In that case, this album definitely feels middle brow for a good chunck of it.

A hiphop/punk album about clowns. Consistent when it comes down to vibe. Some of the songs aren't different enough and don't stand out, but overall, it's an album, all right.
I enjoy the simple but circus-ish production and mixing, has nice synergy with the ditry and clown-like aesthetic. Lyrically, also simple, which ain't a good thing. I'd usually want creativity and clarity in vocals from music, but the duo's pen game is decent at best. Despite this being labeled as horrorcore, they come off more goofy than scary. Sure, there are some songs that talk about serious stuff, like Halls Of Illusions with child abuse, but a lot of the songs that talk about serious stuff isn’t that well written. There isn’t anything terrifying here. Instead, most of the lyrics are edgy. But, the lyrics also work for the vibe for this album as, like the instrumentals, the are also dirty and edgy, which works very well for this album.
I can't give too much else to say about this record, since I don't know much context behind this project nor the subgenre of this, but it sounds decent from an outsider's perspective.
Overall, not my thing, but these guys are still worse at being clowns than meek mill, so hats off to these guys.
